Unit 2 at Limerick nuclear station in US offline: Exelon

Exelon Nuclear has removed unit 2 from service at Limerick Generating Station removed for a scheduled maintenance outage in northwest of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, US.

The company will replace two steam relief valves, essential components of the plant’s steam piping system, during the outage. Plant personnel will complete the maintenance and fully test the new components before returning the unit to service.

Limerick site vice president Russ Kearney said careful and continuous monitoring of plant equipment is essential to reliable operations at Limerick Generating Station. “This maintenance outage will ensure that we can operate safely and reliably during the peak summer season ahead. Our highly trained team is well prepared to perform the scheduled maintenance and return Unit 2 to service for our customers,” Kearney said.

Limerick unit 1 will continue to operate at full power during the outage, and with both units at full power, the site can produce enough carbon-free electricity for two million homes.
