Dong Energy to plug and abandon dry well 3/7-9 S in PL289

Norway-based energy company Dong Exploration and Production has announced to permanently plug and abandon the wildcat well 3/7-9 S in the production license 289 (PL289) in North Sea.

The company is about to complete drilling of the well, which has turned out to be dry. Dong spud the well about 5km northwest of the Trym field in the southern part of the North Sea with an objective to prove petroleum in Middle Jurassic reservoir rocks (the Sandnes and Bryne formations).

The 3/7-9 S well is the second exploration well to be drilled in the PL289. It was drilled to a vertical depth of 3,631m below the sea surface and was terminated in the Skagerrak formation in the Triassic.

The water depth is 63m, while the well was drilled using the Mærsk Giant drilling facility. Dong Energy is the operator of the license.
