EDF EN commissions 115MW Toul-Rosières solar plant in France

French renewable electricity production company EDF Energies Nouvelles (EDF EN) has commissioned the 115MW Toul-Rosières photovaotaic plant in the Lorraine.

The solar power plant is located near Nancy in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department of eastern France and features about 1.4 million advanced ‘thin-film’ photovoltaic panels installed by First Solar.

Electricity generated from the plant can generate enough electricity to cater to the power needs of 55,000 people and reduce 4,600t of CO2 emissions every year.

EDF EN CEO Yvon André said, “Located on abandoned land on the site of former NATO’s air base, the Toul facility represents an ambitious conversion project, which has led to the decontamination of the site and given it a second lease of life in the generation of green electricity.”

EDF EN had designed and built the power plant in 2009, with the firm’s subsidiary EDF EN Services managing the operations and maintenance at the plant.

The project was supported by local officials and community and involved decontamination and revival of a former military base.
