HydrogEn Expo returns to Piacenza, Italy, 21st-23rd May 2025 alongside Nuclear Power Expo and CYBSEC-EXPO, showcasing the accelerating hydrogen revolution, its crucial role in Europe’s net-zero future, and the critical need for robust cybersecurity.

The hydrogen revolution is no longer on the horizon – it’s here and is moving fast. With European hydrogen investments nearly doubling in the first half of 2024 and a projected market value of $42.2 bn USD by 2033, the demand for a dedicated platform to showcase advancements has never been greater. Enter HydrogEn Expo 2025, returning just eight months after a record-breaking 2024 edition to fuel further collaboration and innovation.

A fast-growing industry event

HydrogEn Expo, launched in 2022, has quickly established itself as a pivotal exhibition and conference for the industry. The 2024 edition saw nearly 200 exhibitors and thousands of visitors gather at Piacenza Expo in Italy to explore the latest in hydrogen production, storage, and applications, as well as discuss the major themes impacting the industry. Given the event’s success and the rapid developments in hydrogen technology, organisers Mediapoint & Exhibitions have accelerated the timeline for the next edition, which will take place 21st-23rd May 2025.

Luigi Crema, vice-president of H2IT (the Italian Hydrogen Association), one of the sponsors of the event, said: “The fact that we now have an exhibition dedicated entirely to hydrogen, with a lot of operators presenting market-ready products rather than prototypes, sends a strong and clear message to institutions. The sector is ready.”

EU strategy driving investment towards net zero

Momentum is undeniable, driven by ambitious EU targets to produce and import 10 million tonnes of clean hydrogen by 2030. The RePowerEU strategy recognises hydrogen as a cornerstone of decarbonising energy-intensive industries such as steel, chemicals, and cement, as well as revolutionising the transport sector. This vision aims to see renewable hydrogen fulfilling approximately 10% of the EU’s energy needs by 2050 – a stark contrast to 2022 figures where hydrogen represented less than 2% of consumption and was primarily derived from fossil fuels.

Reinforcing this, Senator Elena Murelli, said during HydrogEn Expo 2024: “Hydrogen is the future for reaching decarbonisation goals. It is important not only for meeting the 2035 EU directive on phasing out diesel engines but also for the future of independence in energy production. We have invested €32 million in the hydrogen sector through the NRRP [National Recovery and Resilience Plan] and have made calls for companies to access these funds.”

This investment surge is shaping the future of hydrogen technology, and HydrogEn Expo 2025 will be the meeting place where industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators turn these ambitions into reality.

Partnerships accelerating technological progress

The spirit of collaboration was exemplified at the last edition when Isotta Fraschini Motori, a leading engine manufacturer, and Ecomotive Solutions, a specialist in electronic engine control systems, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU). The agreement enables Ecomotive Solutions to develop flexible solutions capable of operating on biofuels and renewable energy carriers, including green hydrogen, using Isotta Fraschini Motori’s engine blocks.

Representatives from both companies first met at HydrogEn Expo 2023. One year later, they formalised their collaboration and anticipate presenting initial results at HydrogEn Expo 2025 in May.

Fabio Potestà, director of Mediapoint & Exhibitions, commented: “The partnership between these two companies, which first connected at the event, underscores the crucial role HydrogEn Expo plays in fostering connections and encouraging collaboration among industry stakeholders. We take great pride in facilitating partnerships that drive progress in the industry.”

Memorable networking opportunities

Beyond the exhibition floor and conference auditorium, HydrogEn Expo offers further networking opportunities at the Italian Hydrogen Technology Awards 2025, as well as at a gala dinner on Wednesday 21st May 2025, providing a convivial setting for making new connections.

Adding another layer of significance, HydrogEn Expo 2025 will be co-located with the inaugural Nuclear Power Expo, fostering cross-industry collaboration in the pursuit of net-zero emissions. This strategic alignment acknowledges the complementary roles of green hydrogen and nuclear in a diversified and sustainable energy future.

Protecting critical infrastructure from cyber threats

HydrogEn Expo 2025 will also run alongside the second edition of CYBSEC-EXPO, highlighting the crucial importance of cybersecurity in the energy sector. Cyberattacks are surging globally, with organisations now facing an average of 1,673 attacks per week – a staggering 44% increase from 2023. At the same time, the energy sector remains a prime target for cyberattacks – alongside education, government, healthcare, and telecommunications – experiencing a 42% increase in attacks in 2024. Addressing this growing threat, CYBSEC-EXPO 2025 will bring together experts and stakeholders to share best practices and develop robust strategies for securing critical infrastructure.

“Each edition of HydrogEn Expo builds on the momentum of the last, demonstrating just how quickly this sector is advancing,” Potestà concluded. “By bringing together industry pioneers, policymakers, and investors, we are not only showcasing new technologies but also fostering the connections that will drive hydrogen’s role in a decarbonised future.”

Aalberts integrated piping systems (IPS), a global leader in advanced integrated piping systems for the distribution and control of liquids and gasses, highlights its “Apollo”® 215L butterfly valve product line, engineered to meet the evolving demands of power generation applications. These valves are designed to provide exceptional flow control, durability, and ease of maintenance, ensuring optimal system performance and longevity.

The “Apollo”® 215L butterfly valve product line excels in hydroelectric, nuclear, and fossil fuel plants, serving applications such as cooling water systems in power plants and boiler feed and steam handling. It is distinguished by its double offset design, which provides improved sealing and reduced wear compared to concentric designs. The valves incorporate RTFM (TFM 1700) seat material, offering greater wear resistance and a higher modulus for improved overall performance. Consistent sealing over time is ensured by disc spring washers with live loading technology, which also compensates for wear.

Shaft support and smooth operation are maximized through the use of full-length upper and lower bearings, contributing to the valve’s longevity. Carbon steel valve bodies receive excellent corrosion protection through a polyamide epoxy primer with a polyurethane topcoat. The inclusion of a positive cast disc stop prevents seat damage from over-travel of the disc, while tangential disc pins are placed in compression rather than shear, eliminating potential failure of the disc-stem connection.

Reliable seat support is provided by a multi-bolt seat retainer, making the valves suitable for bi-directional dead-end service. The “Apollo”® 215L line is available in both wafer and lug body styles, offering flexibility for diverse installation requirements. With multiple pressure classes available (150, 300, and 600) and a size range from 2″ to 36” (Class 150), these butterfly valves accommodate a wide range of application pressures and pipeline sizes.

For specialized applications, fire-safe and metal seat options are available, providing solutions for high-temperature and critical environments. Valves are available in CF8M (316 SS) or WCB (Carbon Steel) for the body and CF8M for the disc, providing multiple body/disc material options. The product line features an ISO 5211 mounting flange, allowing for seamless integration with Apollo actuators and manual operators.

Engineers can leverage pressure-temperature ratings for different materials, sizes, and pressure classes, along with flow coefficient (Cv) values for various valve sizes and opening angles, to optimize system design. Varying weights are available for different sizes and pressure classes to aid in installation planning. An optional UHMWPE seat material is available for specific applications.

The “Apollo”® 215L butterfly valves also incorporate a thrust ring to center the disc, ensuring tight shutoff and long service life. End cap seals are available in PTFE, UHMWPE, or graphite to meet different sealing requirements. The 17-4 PH stainless steel shaft is blowout proof and provides high strength and good corrosion resistance. An extended neck allows for 2” of pipe insulation. Jacking taps allow the use of seat retainer bolts to aid in retainer removal. A rocker packing gland features a shaped packing gland that compensates for uneven adjustment of gland nuts. An anti-extrusion ring prevents the extrusion of shaft seals, maintaining optimum seal.

Berlin/Avignon, 27 March 2025. Q ENERGY announced today the construction of the Cahuzac sur Adour solar park in the Gers region, France. Once operational, this 8.5 MWp photovoltaic power plant will provide 4,900 people with green energy and avoid the emission of 2,600 tons of CO2 per year.

Ambitious environmental redevelopment of a long-established artificial site

Between 1993 and 2019, the plot was used for crushing and sieving materials. After its conversion, the future focus changes to sustainable energy production and nature.

Q ENERGY was keen to accompany the development of this green energy facility with a broader environmental approach, including adjusting the fence to allow small animals to pass through, installing amphibian barriers, planting a hedge and sowing the site once construction was complete.

Another measure is the re-profiling of an earthen embankment in favour of the bee-eater. The enclosed and therefore quiet location of the site, combined with insect-friendly vegetation management and the preservation of old trees, will make the site even more attractive for the reintroduction of the bee-eater. In addition, wintering places for reptiles, amphibians and saproxylid insects will be created. Finally, information panels are planned for the nearby “Sentier de l’Adour” hiking trail.

“This project is the result of close and intensive collaboration with authorities and local elected officials. We are proud to support the strategy of the Occitanie region to become an energy-positive region by 2050,” says Véronique Sauzay, Regional Solar Manager at Q ENERGY.
The post Q ENERGY builds an 8.5 MWp PV park in France first appeared on Power Info Today.

Collett and Sons Ltd, a leading specialist heavy transport provider, has successfully completed the transportation of a 234Te stator from Heysham Port, to Gretna Grid Stability Facility, Scotland. Collett’s reputation for handling the most demanding transport projects has again been underscored with this project requiring careful planning, expert execution and collaboration with local authorities to ensure a safe and seamless delivery.

The project commenced when Collett received the stator at Heysham Port from a coaster vessel on the quayside. The stator, measuring 9.1m L x 4.2m W x 3.9m H, was initially loaded onto a 12-row modular flattop trailer to shunt within the port for temporary storage. The stools that were used were supplied by Collett earlier this year. To facilitate self-loading, Collett’s 24 axle 350Te capacity Scheuerle girder bridge trailer was built around the stator at the port itself ensuring efficient loading operations.

On 29th June, the stator, along with Collett’s escort fleet and accompanied by Lancashire police, set off from Heysham Port to follow an intricately planned 92-mile route. Halfway along the route, escort duties were taken over by Cumbria police for the remainder of the journey to Longtown. Navigating along the route, due to the combined length and weight of the girder bridge trailer loaded with the cargo, Collett executed several complex manoeuvres and strategic adjustments to ensure the stator’s safe passage and viability of the route. One example is when Collett temporarily stopped motorway traffic to turn the trucks around and contraflow a joining slip road to avoid an upcoming weak bridge structure.

Upon reaching the transition point at Longtown, after a distance of 88 miles, the stator was self-off-loaded onto temporary stools and the girder bridge was demobilised. At this stage a 16-axle Self-Propelled Modular Trailer (SPMT), was driven under the stator to carefully lift it off the stools eliminating the need for a large mobile crane. The SPMT is a specialist trailer that provides 360-degree steering and vertical lifting or lowering of the load shorter distances where route access is limited. This was ideal due to limited access along the route and various structures (bridges) that Collett had the navigate before they reached the site. The load was safely chained down for the final 4-mile leg of the journey to Gretna Grid Stability Facility. The SPMT was driven at a 1mph walking pace, escorted by Cumbria police.

Prior to the commencement, Collett’s projects department appointed dedicated project managers to handle preliminary works. This included applying for police permits, liaising with local councils, and conducting detailed route surveys. To ensure clear passage, tree trimming and the removal of street furniture were carried out along the route. Additionally, a thorough structural report was made to ensure that two bridges on the route, dating back to the late 1800s, could support the combined weight of the SPMT and stator.

Upon arrival at the Gretna Grid Stability Facility, Collett faced the challenge of limited space on-site. To navigate this, the team temporarily off-loaded the stator onto stools and reconfigured the 16-axle SPMT to an 11-axle configuration. This adjustment enabled the trailer to make a 90-degree turn, positioning the stator for unloading inside the building.

Collett’s success in this project was made possible through effective collaboration within the team and community liaison with councils and the police ensuring a smooth execution showcasing their ability to manage high-profile and demanding logistics projects with precision and professionalism.

The Gretna Grid Stability Facility, featuring a 60 MVA synchronous condenser, will enhance grid stability by providing short-circuit and inertia power, as well as reactive power compensation to support distribution networks with a high share of renewable energy. This project, part of National Grid ESO’s Stability Pathfinder plan, helps address the challenges of maintaining grid stability as renewable energy sources replace conventional power generation.
The post Collett & Sons Successfully Completes Complex Transportation of 234Te Stator first appeared on Power Info Today.
