ABO Energy has established a strategic alliance with Hydropulse, the newly formed build-own-operate subsidiary of ITM Power plc.
ABO Energy and Hydropulse Partnership unites ABO Energy’s network of industrial offtakers, strong international development expertise, and a portfolio of pre-developed green hydrogen projects with Hydropulse’s capabilities in constructing and managing modular, containerised green hydrogen production facilities based on ITM’s advanced electrolyser technology.
By uniting their strengths, the two firms intend to generate value with the combined project development and capital investment in hydrogen assets. This collaboration enables them to deliver Hydrogen-as-a-Service and Infrastructure-as-a-Service, covering the full spectrum of the hydrogen value chain, from green electrons to green molecules.
Under the agreement, ABO Energy and Hydropulse will establish decentralised hydrogen production units located on or near end-user sites. Their work will include permitting processes, securing electricity supply, engineering, construction, and operational management. Hydropulse will assume responsibility for constructing, owning, and operating the production plants, with ABO Energy bringing its development and power experience. This model enables industrial customers to obtain a consistent, long-term source of hydrogen without incurring initial capital investment costs.
The joint venture will begin with the development of projects in Europe, starting in Spain and Finland, where low power prices create a compelling investment proposition for the production of green hydrogen. Early-stage projects with immediate industrial demand for green hydrogen have already been identified as opportunities.
Dennis Schulz, CEO of ITM Power, stated, “This is about market traction. With ABO Energy’s access to sites and end users, we can realise projects faster and turn our technology into recurring revenues. Our modular approach, combined with ABO Energy’s project pipeline, creates a pragmatic route to help industry cut emissions. The partnership will also help us unlock new markets.”
Karsten Schlageter, Managing Director of ABO Energy, commented, “It’s a breakthrough moment for many hydrogen projects. We can now offer our customers a one-stop solution from development to long-term operation without capex intensity. Many of our projects are already developed to a stage where we can move quickly when the offtake is committed. With Hydropulse on board, we can now offer our customers long-term reliable plant operation with a strong technology partner. This collaboration allows us to fast-track projects and deliver real value for industry.”
