LONGi, one of the world’s leading forces in solar innovation, has joined forces with Israel’s top renewable energy developer, Nofar Energy, to provide one of Romania’s largest solar energy installations. Together, the two companies will develop the 282 MW Corbii Mari facility in Dambovita County. This collaboration will install more than 430,000 Hi-MO 9 BC modules, positioning back contact technology at the center of Europe’s next phase of large-scale energy transformation. For Nofar, the project also marks its most ambitious international development so far.

Set to begin production in 2026, the Romania solar project carries dual importance for the region. It represents Nofar Energy’s largest overseas independent power producer (IPP) investment, underscoring its wider expansion into European markets. At the same time, it will be Romania’s largest solar facility with back contact (BC) installation, with Hi-MO 9 modules delivering 24.8% efficiency to address the area’s climate variations. The project illustrates how advanced back contact technology provides long-term reliability and bankability for developers operating within Europe’s increasingly complex energy sector.

Mr. Leon Zhang, President of LONGi Europe, reflected on the broader implications: “Corbii Mari transcends conventional solar deployments – it’s a powerful validation that BC technology has matured into Europe’s utility-scale foundation. By choosing Hi-MO 9 for their flagship European venture, Nofar Energy demonstrates how visionary partners are accelerating the energy transition through technological leadership.”

Adding to this perspective, Mr. Mirel Jarnea, Strategic Accounts Manager SEE at LONGi Europe, remarked: “Nofar’s selection of Hi-MO 9 is a testament to the global energy sector’s recognition of BC technology as the ultimate frontier in solar innovation. This partnership reaffirms our commitment to delivering solutions that redefine efficiency, durability, and sustainability.”

Favi Stelian, Managing Partner Romania of Nofar Energy, emphasized the importance of the initiative: “The Corbii Mari project represents a defining moment for Nofar Energy’s European vision. By partnering with LONGi and deploying Hi-MO 9 BC technology, we are not only delivering Romania’s largest solar initiative but also setting a new benchmark for sustainable innovation across the continent.”

This solar project will rely on Hi-MO 9’s back contact design to achieve consistently high performance in Romania’s shifting weather conditions. The modules’ durability, supported by a 30-year degradation guarantee, will provide stable energy generation, while their ultra-high-power output reduces land requirements. This ensures that agricultural use in Dambovita County is preserved, even as the facility delivers significant clean power. The plant is anticipated to generate around 380 GWh annually. This can prevent 220,000 tonnes of carbon emissions. That achievement equates to removing 48,000 conventional vehicles from circulation while supplying renewable energy to more than 50,000 households in Romania.

Taking the lead in Eastern Europe’s drive towards renewable energy, Corbii Mari will be a showcase for Nofar Energy’s growing multi-GW European pipeline. The partnership showcases the potential for applying back contact technology to other rapidly emerging markets, where efficiency and project bankability are crucial to long-term success.
