As per Poland’s Energy Regulatory Office- URE, the country has gone on to award roughly 618 MW of projects in this year’s auctions for the sale of electricity by way of renewable sources. It is well to be noted that the auctions took place in November.

The capacity consists mainly of solar power, which happens to be supplemented by 24.5 MW of onshore wind.

It is worth noting that in the auction for installations with a capacity of up to 1 MW, there were 133 successful offers, all of which happened to be for solar arrays. A total of 56 producers submitted these, which collectively represented almost 123 MW of capacity.

The auction for wind as well as solar projects with a capacity of more than 1 MW has awarded a total of 495.5 MW. Out of this capacity, 471 MW happens to be dedicated to solar projects, while the left-over 24.5 MW is allocated to wind projects. Apparently, there were 67 successful offers, which were laid down by 52 producers.

The reference price in terms of solar power plants in this category was PLN 389, which is equal to USD 98.6/EUR 89.7 per MWh. For wind power plants, it was PLN 324 per MWh. The prices achieved shifted between PLN 119 to PLN 310 for onshore wind power and from PLN 272.91 to PLN 349.69 when it comes to photovoltaic power plants.

Five additional auctions were slated to take place that involved sources such as hydropower, biomass, as well as biogas, but these auctions could not take place because of a lack of sufficient offers.

The capacity awarded within the auctions was just a fraction of the total volume that was available. It is well to be noted that the winners will be provided with support for a 15-year duration.

URE’s President Rafal Gawin acknowledged that this time renewable energy auctions did not go on to generate substantial interest from producers and stated that these results show a growing appeal when it comes to long-term corporate power purchase agreements- PPAs which is indeed an alternative to the auction support system.
