US-based engineering company Naes Corporation has secured the hydropower turbine installation contract from Barnard Construction Company (BCC).

The company, as per the contract, will installs three 5.3 MW horizontal Francis Turbine/Generator units through its subsidiary Naes Power Contractors.

The project is part of BCC’s Blue Lake Expansion Project in Sitka, Alaska. Naes will also provide labor for the installation of three hydropower turbine units alongside the required ancillary equipment and major electrical equipment for the BCC’s powerhouse at the Blue Lake Dam.

The expansion project is expected to provide a significant increase in the electric power generation capabilities in the City and Borough of Sitka utilizing cost effective, clean and environmentally friendly methods. The project is expected to be completed by November 2014.
