MHI Vestas Offshore Wind said it has signed firm contracts with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) for the 589-MW Changfang and Xidao offshore wind complex in Taiwanese waters.

The joint venture (JV) between Denmark’s Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) and Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (TYO:7011) is to provide a total of 62 V174-9.5 MW turbines for the wind parks. This is the first project to reach financial close among those in the Asia-Pacific regions for which MHI Vestas will supply turbines.

The Danish fund management company, which is the majority shareholder in the projects, achieved financial close last week.

The two wind parks making up the complex will be built in several phases. Changfang Phase 1 will include 10 turbines with a combined capacity of 95 MW, to be erected in 2022. Changfang Phase 2, including 47 turbines with a total capacity of 446.5 MW and Xidao, consisting of five turbines with a capacity of 47.5 MW, will be installed the following year.
