A consortium of six major European entities, EDF, CEA, Dawex, GIFEN, Institut Mines-Télécom, and Sopra Steria, has joined forces to establish a sovereign and secure digital platform for data exchange within the nuclear industry. The initiative, called Data4NuclearX, is being led by GIFEN and several key contractors from the nuclear sector.

The Data4NuclearX project aims to build a secure digital space where nearly 2,000 companies in France’s nuclear industry can safely share information. It’s meant to boost how efficiently and safely data is handled while keeping it under national control. As the sector grows, the volume of shared data is projected to rise sharply, up to 25 million exchanges a year within the next five years.

Developed as part of France’s broader nuclear revival strategy, the Data4NuclearX project introduces a new framework that ensures safe data circulation, supports complex project management, strengthens collaboration between industry participants, and drives innovation and digital transformation. Its data space is built on four core objectives:

  • Guaranteeing every participant access to reliable, real-time data for operational decision-making across all nuclear processes.
  • Using common language to make it easier for companies to work together.
  • Making sure each company retains full control over its data and determines who gets access.
  • The system will also be built on European technology standards that follow Gaia-X principles.

In its first stage, the project will center on tracking equipment production to speed up decisions and cut delivery times. The Data4NuclearX project is expected to benefit the whole nuclear supply chain, improving quality control, tightening schedules, strengthening traceability, and speeding up how issues are handled. The roadmap includes a design and planning phase through 2027, followed by pilot tests on three main use cases before full deployment in 2028.

Supported by the French government through the France 2030 program, Data4NuclearX project is part of a broader effort to reinforce national control over digital technologies. Each consortium member contributes specialized expertise:

  • EDF oversees coordination and pilots implementation within its nuclear operations;
  • CEA leverages its 80 years of experience and AI proficiency to ease partner integration;
  • Dawex supplies a secure, compliant data exchange platform;
  • GIFEN drives digital process collaboration across the sector;
  • Institut Mines-Télécom, through its Data Space Lab, supports prototyping and scaling;
  • Sopra Steria provides technical architecture and development capabilities to build the platform’s essential components.
