In a move that can be called decisive and that signals the reactivation of the wind energy market of Brazil, Vestas, the Danish turbine manufacturer, has gone on to secure a massive 828 MW order from Casa dos Ventos, the renewable energy giant. The partnership centers around the development of the Dom Inocêncio wind complex, which is located in the high-yield wind corridor of south-central Piauí. This agreement also marks the first large-scale wind energy investment that has been announced in Brazil since 2023, hence ending a period of sector stagnation along with reaffirming the position of the country as a global renewable powerhouse.

The deal goes on to involve the supply as well as installation of 184 V150-4.5 MW turbines – a model that has become a staple when it comes to optimizing the power generation wind energy market of Brazil. Apart from the hardware, the contract also has in it a 25-year Active Output Management 5000 – AOM 5000 service agreement, making sure that Vestas is going to oversee the long-term performance along with maintenance of the assets. Construction is slated to start in 2026, with the complex expected to be completely commissioned and also operational by 2028.

The Dom Inocêncio complex goes on to represent a total investment that goes beyond BRL 5 billion, or almost USD 850 million. Once it is operational, the facility is most likely to generate enough clean electricity so as to power almost 2 million Brazilian homes, hence majorly bolstering the security as well as sustainability of the national energy grid.

According to the Executive Director of Casa dos Ventos, Lucas Araripe, this new agreement is another demonstration of their commitment when it comes to supporting Brazil’s renewable energy matrix expansion. Apart from driving the energy transition of the country, their investment is also going to significantly boost socio-economic development within the region.

The project is anticipated to be a major economic engine when it comes to the state of Piauí and all of the broader Brazilian wind sector – a regional renewable momentum also highlighted as Microsoft and Canadian Powertrust ink a deal for 260 MW solar projects based across Mexico and Brazil. Apart from this, there are estimates that suggest that the development is sure to create more than 8,500 direct as well as indirect jobs in construction as well as operational phases. Through securing such a substantial order, Casa dos Ventos is also going ahead and stimulating the local supply chain, which in the past faced uncertainty in a recent market slowdown.

The President of Vestas for Latin America, Eduardo Ricotta, underlined the strategic significance of the deal. He opined that receiving Casa dos Ventos’ trust once again for yet another project of such magnitude is indeed a great source of pride for them and that it is an honor to support a partner that goes on to share the same vision and endeavor, which is to develop projects that go on to drive the energy shift, expand the access when it comes to clean energy, and also foster the socio-economic progress.

It is worth noting that this latest contract goes on to build on a strong eight-year relationship that has existed between both the companies, which in the past delivered certain phenomenal projects like the 1.3 GW Rio do Vento as well as the Babilonia Centro clusters.
