Vestas has received a contract to supply turbines to five wind energy projects with a combined capacity of 297MW in South Africa.

The selection was made by the South African Department of Energy as part of the country’s second round of renewable energy tenders. The three of five projects including 24.6MW Grahamstown, 61.5MW Grassridge and 21.53MW Chaba will be developed by EDF EN France.

GDF Suez/IPR will develop a 94MW West Coast 1 project, while Cennergi will develop a 95.33MW SA Tsitsikamma project. Combined with the first round of tenders announced in December of 2011, Vestas has won preferred supplier status for seven projects totaling 435.1MW
