Alstom to deploy first stay ring for 373.4MW hydroelectric plant in Brazil

Alstom will shortly deploy the first stay ring at the 373.4MW Santo Antonio do Jari hydropower plant in Brazil.

The deployment of the stay ring represents a significant milestone for the project, which is scheduled to be commissioned towards the end of 2014.

Weighing nearly 120 tons, the stay ring is a key component of the turbine for a homogenous distribution of water enabling the movement of runner blades to generate power.

The Santo Antonio do Jari plant is owned by EDP and is being constructed on the river Jari in the Amazonian region of Brazil.

Alstom manufactured the stay ring at its large Taubate factory in Brazil, and will deliver the equipment by the middle of March 2013.

Consorcio Amapa Energia employed a consortium, including Alstom and Brazilian engineering companies CESBE and Areva Koblitz as engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors for the project.

Alstom will also supply the Kaplan turbines, generators, hydromechanical and lifting equipment, distributed control system besides carrying out the engineering works, erection, supervision and commissioning of the three units.
