EDF Energy plans to award a package of new contracts worth £200m to various companies for the supply of equipment for its planned nuclear projects in the UK.
The company will contract the jobs at its third national supply chain event.

Kier BAM will be selected as the preferred bidder for a more than £100m contract for site preparation works at the proposed Hinkley Point C nuclear power station in Somerset. The work includes excavation, terracing, installation of construction site infrastructure and the building of roads networks to allow main construction to begin, subject to clearance of planning conditions. The preparatory works will be followed by the main construction at the site.A second announcement today as part of EDF Energy’s plans to build a new twin-reactor nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C in Somerset is an agreement with AREVA in relation to the early design work for the main reactor systems. This will allow AREVA to begin the work in January.
This agreement is a critical step to develop detailed equipment specifications, under which the companies will be asked to bid for equipment supply contracts.
Under the terms of the agreement, Areva will produce the heavy forgings required for critical reactor components, following a contract signed between the companies in July.In addition, EDF, in partnership with Bridgwater College, will invest a total of £15m to develop a world class national training centre in the local area.
Hinkley Point C will generate around 6% of the UK’s low-carbon electricity, which will be enough to power five million homes.
