SunPower Corp has broken ground on a 13.78MW (DC) solar power system at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake (NAWS China Lake) in the US state of California.

The solar photovoltaic plant is financed through a power purchase agreement (PPA) and an affiliate of MetLife purchased the system that SunPower designed and is building. Electricity generated by the project will be purchased by NAWS China Lake and SunPower will operate and maintain the facility when it is completed at the end of 2012. The power project will use the SunPower Oasis product, a fully integrated, modular solar power block which is engineered to rapidly and cost-effectively deploy utility-scale solar projects while optimizing land use.
