Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa has secured a contract from France-based power company Engie for installing 260MW of clean energy at a wind project in Peru.

Located in the southern region of Ica, the Punta Lomitas wind farm is Engie’s first renewable project in the country. The farm will include 50 units of Siemens Gamesa’s SG 5.0-145 onshore turbines operating at capacities from 5MW to 5.2MW.

It is expected to come online by the first quarter of 2023.

Siemens Gamesa, which currently has 164 MW of installed capacity in Peru, has also agreed to provide long-term operation and maintenance services for the project.

The company currently offers these services to five wind facilities in the country. Siemens Gamesa Latam onshore managing director Jorge Lobaton de la Guardia said: “It has been a great team effort to get here, and we are very proud to be entrusted by Engie Energia Peru.

“We will go above and beyond what’s expected from us to deliver and complete this project, in a market with all the potential to become a benchmark in the region.”

Engie Energia Peru CEO Rik de Buyserie said: “The Punta Lomitas wind power plant is a clear example of our commitment to the development of renewable energies in Peru and a clear determination of our actions to accelerate the transformation towards a carbon-neutral economy.”

Peru currently has 400MW of installed wind power capacity to date, across more than eight operating parks. The country aims to triple its clean power generation by 2030.

Last month, Siemens Gamesa and Repsol finalised their first turbine supply contract for four wind farms in Spain. Siemens Gamesa will supply 24 of its SG 5.0-145 wind turbines to be installed across the facilities, which will have a total installed capacity of 120MW.
