BayWa r.e. presents the second edition of its “Energy Report Germany” just in time for this year’s Intersolar exhibition. The survey ofย 1000 decision-makers provides a meaningful insight into the energy supply of German companies, the prevailing attitudes within these companies regardingย energy policy issues and the fundamental willingness to invest in renewable energies.

Agreement with the energy revolutionย
On the issue of the energy revolution, the decisionmakersย surveyed are largely in agreement: 82 per centย consider it a duty of companies to advocate the energyย revolution. 80 per cent of respondents are alsoย convinced that companies which use renewableย energies have an image advantage and are moreย attractive to future employees (55 per cent). Despiteย this basic agreement, most companies are still veryย hesitant to switch to renewable energies. Only 35 percent of respondents were employed in companies thatย use green energy and only 12 per cent in companiesย that have already invested in energy efficiencyย measures.ย

Green energy supply remains the exceptionย
The Energy Report Germany reveals considerableย ignorance regarding the energy supply. 37 per cent ofย the decision-makers surveyed did not know where theย energy for their company comes from. 23 per centย reported that their company uses only conventionalย electricity beyond the EEG share. In just five per cent -of cases was the company fully supplied with greenย electricity from renewable sources. “For just over halfย of the decision-makers surveyed, the energy revolutionย and climate protection are obviously a non-issue,” saysย Dr Volker Quaschning, energy expert at HTW Berlin,ย University of Applied Sciences. “These figures showย that the complete decarbonization of Germany is still aย long way off.”

Investment in renewable energies can be improvedย
35 per cent of respondents reported that their companyย already uses renewable energy. Another third isย planning to switch to renewable energies, at leastย partially, in the next five years while the remaining 33ย per cent was not planning any change at the time ofย the survey. This group cited high costs as the mainย obstacle to investment (51 per cent). โ€œThe assumptionย that converting to renewable energies is too expensiveย is stubbornly persisting,” explains Gรผnter Haug,ย Managing Director of BayWa r.e. “The results of theย Energy Report also show that these fears areย groundless. As a company specializing in renewableย energies with a wide range of services for commercialย customers, we consider it our task to provideย information on this issue and to actively contribute toย making German companies more sustainable.”
