Tata Power, an Indian power utility, is set to develop a 28.8MW solar PV project in the Satara district in the state of Maharashtra through its subsidiary, Tata Power Renewable Energy (TPREL).

The distribution arm of Tata Power has entered into a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to purchase power from this solar plant in a bid to meet its solar renewable purchase obligations (RPO).

Tata Power managing director Anil Sardana said that the company is committed to generate 20%-25% of its total generation capacity from renewable energy sources.

“Tata Power strives to reduce its carbon footprint. We would like to thank the Government of Maharashtra and all our stakeholders for the support extended for setting up this solar power project at Palaswadi,” added Sardana.

The power output from the project will be transported through Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission (MSETCL)’S network.

Entire project capacity is expected to start by December 2013 through company’s major purchase orders for EPC.

Tata Power currently has four renewable projects 50.4MW Gadag project, 50.4MW Wind project, 50.4MW Wind project and 25MW Solar project, all of which are registered under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) program by United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
