BCDA to reconstruct mini-hydro electric plant in Philippines

State-run Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) plans to reconstruct a pre-war mini-hydro electric plant inside Camp John Hay in Baguio City, Philippines.

BCDA president and chief executive Arnel Paciano Casanova said rehabilitation studies for the project are currently in progress.”The BCDA will be partnering with the John Hay Management Corp in this undertaking,” added Casanova.

John Hay Management Corp president and chief executive Jamie Agbayani said the project would be more of a rebuilding than rehabilitation, referring the need to construct a new hydro plant after the destruction of a previous plant by an earthquake 21 years ago.

The rebuilding of the project is scheduled from 2012 until 2013, reports manilastandardtoday.com

“We are looking for a hydro plant that could generate 3.8MW to 4MW, bigger than the original hydro plant built during the American period that was good for only 560kW,” added Agbayani.

The power generated from the new hydro plant may supply the electricity requirements of the John Hay Special Economic Zone, Baguio City, Benguet province and the northern Luzon grid.
