US-based Entergy Nuclear has announced that its Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Massachusetts has resumed operation after a two-day shutdown, to investigate a minor leak at a valve on a steam-carrying pipe.

The company said that the 685MW nuclear power plant was reconnected to the electric transmission grid on 23 January 2013, reports Associated Press.

The generating station was manually closed down on 21 January, to investigate a minor leak associated with a pilot valve on one of the plant’s four safety relief valves.

The valve has been replaced by technicians at the station, and there was no threat to public safety.

Earlier, the nuclear power plant came back online after a seven-day shutdown, prompted by the failure of an electrical relay that resulted in automatic turn off of two water recirculation pumps.
