US-based renewable energy company MidAmerican Wind has acquired two wind projects in California with a combined installed capacity of 300MW.

The company acquired the 168MW Alta Wind VII and the 132MW Alta Wind IX projects from California Highwind Power, a subsidiary of Terra-Gen Power.

Commenting on the acquisition MidAmerican Wind president Tom Budler remarked that this marks the company’s second acquisition of wind generation assets in 2012.

“We are pleased to add the Alta Wind VII and Alta Wind IX projects to our generation portfolio,” added Budler.

Both projects, located near Tehachapi will employ about 100 Vestas 3MW V90 wind turbines, which are expected to bring the company’s wind energy portfolio to 381MW, while total renewable energy portfolio swells to 1,250MW.

Southern California Edison will purchase the electricity from both the projects, under long-term power purchase agreements.
