Indian renewable energy developer Welspun Energy has commissioned a 50MW solar power plant in state of Rajasthan.

The company added two additional units of 15MW and 20MW to the previously commissioned 15MW unit, thereby completing the project at a site near Phalodi, Jodhpur district.

Welspun Energy co-founder and managing director Vineet Mittal told Live Mint that the project testifies the company’s commitment to supply clean energy to boost growth in the country.

“Completion of this project before schedule and at a lower than budgeted cost demonstrates Welspun Energy’s expertise in solar project development,” added Mittal.

The project has annual production capacity of 90MWh, suffice to meet the energy requirements of 25 million households in the region.

Welspun developed the project under the government’s Phase-1 of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission and it helps reduce an estimated 83,220 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per annum.
