EDP Renewables , a global leader in the renewable energy sector and one of the world’s largest wind energy producers, has today announced the upcoming construction of a new wind farm in Belgium.

The wind farm, located in Sivry-Rance (Province du Hainaut), will feature four wind turbines totalling an installed capacity of 10 MW.

This facility, slated for construction in 2018, will add to the 71 MW that the company already operates in Wallonia, all of which are within a radius of approximately 20 kilometers from Sivry-Rance. EDPR is therefore fully familiarised with the specific requirements of the area and will take great care to respect the commitments undertaken during the development phase.

EDP Renewables plans to roll out a clear growth strategy for the Belgian market out of its offices in Brussels and position itself as a key player in the country. As it does in every market in which it operates, EDPR will uphold the highest levels of expertise and excellence in its activity, both in the field of development and of construction and operation.

Duarte Bello, COO of EDP Renewables for Europe and Brazil, said: “EDP Renewables has been operating in Belgium since 2008 and hopes to continue its activity in project development and clean energy production in the region. The Sivry project is a clear reflection of our interest.”

EDPR always ensures its operations comply with the most exacting environmental standards and best practices. Sustainable development is one of the mainstays of the company, which is constantly investing in and developing solutions for a more sustainable future. For instance, EDPR is a pioneer in recycling innovation and recently signed a cooperation agreement with Thermal Recycling of Composites (TRC), a spin-off of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), to create a recycling program for wind turbine blades. This agreement provides a roadmap for the other countries in which the company operates, as well as for the sector as a whole.

EDPR’s operating activity is governed by the ISO 14001 environmental standard and the OHSAS 18001 occupational health and safety standard.
