Danish wind turbine supplier Vestas secured has an extension from US-based Alliant Energy for services and maintenance at the 200MW Whispering Willow wind farm in Iowa.

The extension contract will allow Vestas to continue services and maintenance for the 121 V82-1.65 MW wind turbines at wind farm for the next three years besides monitoring and remote control of the turbines using the VestasOnline surveillance system.

Vestas will offer its services under the active output management mode.ย Alliant Energy, energy resource development senior vice president Tom Aller stated that renewable energy is a key component of the company’s long-term energy resource supply.

“As a result, we need a company that can keep our wind generating facilities operating at an optimum level.

“Our partnership with Vestas provides good jobs for working families and ensures that this wind farm will continue to produce emissions-free energy for the benefit of our customers safely and efficiently,” added Aller.

The farm commenced operations in 2009 and is capable of producing sufficient electricity to power 50,000 homes.
