New York has unveiled a new initiative aimed at developing large-scale, land-based renewable energy projects. This effort is expected to attract billions in green energy investments and create thousands of jobs.

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is managing this competitive solicitation, part of a planned series of procurements for large-scale renewable projects.

NYSERDA has included several key provisions from previous rounds, such as inflation indexing, labor standards, stakeholder engagement, climate resiliency, commitments to disadvantaged communities, agricultural land preservation, and other priorities. These guidelines are detailed in the solicitation documents and aim to support the development of advanced renewable energy projects poised for near-term operation.

Governor Kathy Hochul mentioned that New York is committed to developing a clean energy economy, which is expected to significantly reduce emissions, create numerous well-paying jobs, stimulate economic growth, and attract private investment into local communities. She indicated that once selected, the projects would help the state achieve its goal of providing affordable, reliable, zero-emission electricity to benefit all New Yorkers.

NYSERDA President and CEO Doreen M. Harris expressed that by advancing land-based renewable energy projects, New York is positioning itself as a leader in the transition to clean and reliable energy. She emphasized NYSERDA’s commitment to strengthening the renewable energy pipeline and increasing the delivery of renewable electricity to enhance the future grid.

The proposal submission process will occur in two stages: eligibility requirements must be met by July 15, 2024, and final proposals are due by August 8, 2024.
