Algonquin Power & Utilities (APUC) has purchased a 109.5MW contracted wind powered generating station from Goldwind International for $148.9m.

The Shady Oaks wind power facility was acquired through APUC’s power generation subsidiary Algonquin Power and is located in Northern Illinois.

Shady Oaks comprises 68 Goldwind GW82 1.5MW turbines and 3 Goldwind GW100 2.5MW permanent magnet direct-drive wind turbines, estimated to generate 364 GWh of energy every year.

Algonquin Power & Utilities CEO Ian Robertson stated, “The acquisition of the Shady Oaks wind farm provides additional geographic diversification to our renewable power portfolio and the 20 year power sales contract further strengthens the stable, long term profile of our non-regulated power business.”

Goldwind will continue to extend operations, maintenance, and capital repair services for the Shady Oaks wind facility for the next 20 years.

The facility had commenced commercial operation in June 2012 and is under a 20-year power purchase agreement with Illinois electric utility Commonwealth Edison.
