The European Energy has begun its hydrogen production at its expanded Måde site located in Denmark after installing another electrolyser. This upgrade goes on to increase the total electrolysis capacity from 3.1 MW to 8.1 MW, hence marking a step with the industrial strengthening of its Power-to-X operations.

The newly installed unit, which is supplied by Plug Power, went on to produce its first volumes of hydrogen on December 10, 2025, during an initial test run at 10% load and also 40 bar pressure. The site has now entered an active commissioning phase, with the ongoing technical as well as safety verification. Simultaneously, the original electrolyser from Stiesdal got replaced with a much more modernised version, hence syncing the overall facility with the present sector standards.

It is well to be noted that European Energy has got its ISO 9001 certification when it comes to its gas distribution operations throughout Denmark. This regulatory validation is necessary so as to make sure of the compliance of hydrogen deliveries, which are going to be certified as RFNBO – Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin under the ISCC – International Sustainability and Carbon Certification scheme.

Calibration operations and performance tests, along with safety checks, will continue for the next three to four weeks. This phase makes sure that all the components and control systems, as well as procedures, function in sync with the defined technical needs. Once over, the facility is going to be ready to start commercial hydrogen rollouts.

European Energy looks forward to producing 550 tonnes of hydrogen at its Måde site in 2026, which is equivalent to almost 1,500 truck deliveries. The company looks forward to integrating the multiple electrolyser technologies on the site in order to compare their industrial performance within the real operational environment.

It is well to be noted that the Måde site is intended to serve as a platform in terms of testing as well as optimising numerous electrolysis technologies. This strategy goes on to sync with the aim of the company to build an integrated hydrogen production value chain and also evaluate the supplier competitiveness, and that too in an industrial context.

Since its very first production in June 2024, the facility has now become a strategic asset when it comes to European energy in terms of developing its Power-to-X operations. The increase in electrolysis capacity helps the company to structure the targeted investments within the hydrogen sector, with the objective of building an industrial asset portfolio at the scale of the European market.
