Alstom has secured a contract to provide and install 29 units of the ECO 74 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 1.67MW, in Western Japan.

Equipped with Alstom Pure Torque design, the wind turbines allows for higher reliability of the drive train and reduced operation and maintenance costs over the wind turbine’s lifetime.

With a capacity of 48MW, the wind farm is expected to have annual output of 85 million kWh, which can serve 23,600 households. It is scheduled to be fully operational in 2016.

Alstom said that the turbines have been specially adapted to withstand high levels of Japan’s seismic activity.

Alstom Wind senior vice president Alfonso Faubel said, “We are delighted to be given the opportunity to further contribute to the development of renewable energy in Japan.

“This new contract is a true recognition of our technology and expertise and further demonstrates Alstom’s ability to adapt to local constraints.” On completion of the project, the company will have provided 100MW of wind power installed capacity in the country.
