Industrial Decarbonisation and Power Sector Synergy

The path to a net-zero economy requires the deep integration of heavy industry with the electrical grid. By exploring the concept of sector coupling and the role of hydrogen in difficult-to-abate sectors, this analysis details how industrial decarbonisation and power sector synergy can create a more resilient, flexible, and efficient energy system through shared infrastructure and coordinated strategy.

Hydrogen Trade Corridors Reshape Global Energy Supply

The emergence of international hydrogen trade is fundamentally redrawing the world's energy maps. By establishing dedicated corridors that connect resource-rich exporters with high-demand industrial centers, the global energy transition is moving toward a more diversified and resilient supply chain underpinned by advanced maritime logistics and rigorous certification standards.

Project: Skills assessment and development of operations and maintenance personnel for the oil, gas and petrochemical industries.

Customer: Economic Development Board of Singapore

Location: Jurong Island, Singapore

Project Summary

Scope: The Chemical Process Technology Centre (CPTC) is an impressive training centre located on Jurong Island, Singapore, which has been managed by Petrofac on behalf of the Economic Development

Board of Singapore since June 2008. Petrofac’s Training Services business combines more than 30 years of experience with a first-class technical and operations training centre to deliver competence-led training programmes for both international and national oil companies.

Delivering competent, safer and more efficient workforces

Petrofac Training Services manages and operates the CPTC, enabling customers to develop competent, safer and more efficient workforces. We are able to adapt services to best suit the needs of country, customer or specific nationalisation programmes.

Enabling skills assessment and development of operations and maintenance personnel for the oil, gas and petrochemical industries, the centre provides a state-of-the-art learning environment.

World’s first training centre to contain an industry-scale, live hydrocarbon processing plant

The plant is designed to operate as an actual production unit and is an example of ‘a typical commercial plant’, providing delegates with first-hand experience of plant operations within a safe and controlled environment.

In response to the needs of Singapore’s oil, gas and petrochemical industry, the CPTC has been specifically designed to provide operations and maintenance training and assessment in line with actual operations. Therefore the training includes shift rotation, permit to work with task risk assessments, start up and shutdown exercises, emergency response, and fire drill exercises.

With this ability to train on live plant under ‘typical’ plant conditions, the CPTC delivers competence-based, practical training for both new entrants to industry and experienced personnel who wish to develop their skills further – upgrading and enhancing their knowledge and competence in the latest technological developments.

Our team can assess and measure competency, and can assist customers in their pre-employment screening process which, in turn, can help them to reduce inherent risk within their business.

With a live hydrocarbon processing plant, specialist equipment laboratories, fully equipped classrooms and a 200-seat auditorium, the CPTC really is a unique experiential learning environment.
