GE Renewable Energy awarded a $56 million hydro contract in China

GE Renewable Energy announced it has signed a $56 million contract with China Yalong River Hydropower Development Co., Ltd to provide 6X500 MW hydro generators and auxiliary equipment for the Liang He Kou hydropower plant.

GE’s Hydro Solutions will provide the equipment design, manufacturing, supervision of the installation, commissioning, testing on site as well as various site services during the execution phase. The six units’ annual power output will reach 11 billion Kwh. The first unit is planned to be commissioned by 2021.

Yves Rannou, President & CEO of GE’s Hydro Solutions said: “We are glad to partner again with China Yalong River Hydropower Development Co. Ltd., who had already chosen GE for the construction of Jinping II hydropower station. The generator is specifically designed for high altitudes and results from GE’s Hydro Solutions’ cutting-edge technology. We are extremely happy about the renewed trust.”

Liang He Kou Hydropower Station is located on middle reach of the main stream of Yalong River in Yajiang County, which is in Ganzi Prefecture of Sichuan Province. Liang He Kou station is the leading hydropower station in middle and lower reaches of Yalong River. This hydro plant is designed for unmanned watch operation, using monitoring and control systems.

GE’s Hydro Center of Excellence in Tianjin will be the main engineering and manufacturing site of the project, and will be supported by GE Global Technical Center.

As one of the China’s leading hydro manufacturers, GE Renewable Energy has successfully put into operation 62 GW. GE has already provided Francis type turbine and generators for world-class hydropower plants located in China including Three Gorges Dam, the world’s greatest power plant, for which GE supplied 14 of the dam’s 32 units; each with an output capacity of 700 MW. The company has also worked on the Ahai power station that currently houses the world’s biggest ring gate, for which it provided 5 x 400 MW units; and contributed to the Xiangjiaba power plant – the world’s highest capacity hydropower plant – with 4 x 800 MW Francis units. For JinPing II, a power station owned by China Yalong River Hydropower Development Co. Ltd., GE designed and commissioned 8 x 600 MW units generators.
