Renewable energy company Sunwest Water and Electric (Suwenco) is set to commence the operations of its 8MW Villasiga-1 hydropower plant by August 2013.

The run-of-river hydropower project, which is located in Panay Islands, Philippines at Bugasong, Antique, is slated to be completed by June 2013.

Suweco project manager Christian Biglain noted that Villasiga-1 is the first hydropower project in Panay Island, reported Philstar.com.

The commissioning of the hydropower plant will follow two months later when it can export power to the Panay grid.

“All equipment for the operation of the plant, except for the three turbines, have already been procured and delivered to the site,” elaborated Biglain.

The company claimed that 80% of the project was completed by the end of February.

Also, the National Grid of the Philippines (NGCP) is likely to put up the Culasi-San Jose 69kV-transmission line in the project area for its transmission needs.

Suweco, meanwhile, has commenced the detailed engineering work for its 9.6MW Villasiga-2 hydropower project in Bugasong, besides seeking project locations in Antique including Laua-an, Dalanas, Tibiao and San Agustin, Valderrama.
