Germany’s RWE has signed an agreement with Siemens Gamesa for the supply of 1 GW of onshore wind turbines that will be deployed across Europe until 2027.  Siemens Gamesa will thus become a leading supplier of major components for RWE’s wind project pipeline.

RWE will mainly use the Siemens Gamesa 5.X model with a flexible output of 6.6 MW to 7 MW, and will also use the Siemens Gamesa 4.X type in various projects as part of the agreement. The contract will also include a service agreement for the wind turbines, which will eventually enable RWE to carry out maintenance and inspections on its own.

In April 2023, RWE already selected Siemens Gamesa to supply wind turbines for the 1 GW Thor offshore wind project located 22 km off Thorsminde on the west coast of Jutland (Denmark). RWE is also using blades from Siemens Gamesa not only in its German offshore wind farm Kaskasi (342 MW), but also for its largest construction project, Sofia, which has a capacity of 1.4 GW and is currently being built off the north-eastern coast of the United Kingdom.
