Eneco said it plans to acquire the business energy supplier Gulf Gas + Power. The move is part of its strategy to grow sustainably in the SME segment in the Netherlands and to support the energy transition. Eneco expects the acquisition will create opportunities to enhance the services offered to Gulf Gas + Power’s customers, helping them reduce both energy consumption and emissions.

Gulf Gas + Power currently serves over 30,000 SME clients. In the near term, customers will see no changes to their services. Over the course of 2026, Eneco will bring Gulf Gas + Power’s operations into its own system. After that, any customer renewing a contract will get electricity that comes entirely from green energy.

With Eneco taking over energy supply responsibilities, customers will also gain access to guidance on reducing emissions, reflecting the company’s commitment to assisting businesses in lowering their carbon footprint. The acquisition is expected to enable Eneco to support a larger number of business clients in improving operational efficiency and advancing decarbonisation efforts.

Selina Thurer, Chief Operations Officer Customers at Eneco, said: “This acquisition fits perfectly with our strategy to further grow in the business market and to support SME customers in reducing energy consumption and CO₂ emissions. It strengthens our position as a partner in the energy transition and enables us to offer more customers sustainable energy and innovative solutions.”

Michel Koornstra, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Gulf Gas + Power, added: “Since our founding in 2017, we’ve rapidly built a strong position as an SME-focused energy supplier in the Netherlands. Joining Eneco ensures continuity for our customers and gives them access to new products, expertise, and scale benefits to accelerate the energy transition. For our team, this marks the beginning of a new chapter in which we can further pursue our ambitions as part of Eneco.”

Eneco has made climate neutrality a core goal in collaboration with all its customers, entering contracts exclusively for green electricity, including for businesses. Earlier this year, the company launched Eneco GroenGebouw™, a programme designed to help commercial property owners make buildings and energy consumption more sustainable, offering full-service support during implementation and ongoing energy management.

The acquisition remains subject to approval from competition authorities. Eneco and Gulf Gas + Power have not disclosed any financial details related to the transaction.
