India-based clean energy provider Greenko launched six run-of-river hydro projects in the states of Himachal Pradesh and Arunachal Pradesh.
The six projects will have a combined installed capacity of 425MW and will now be a part of the company’s active development pipeline.
Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba District will host two additional projects, totaling 115MW capacity and will be part of an existing cluster of hydroelectric projects.
The remaining projects with a consolidated capacity of 315MW are planned on the perennial Yargyap Chu River in the West Siang District in Arunachal Pradesh, as part of a new regional cluster for the state.
The construction of the projects is expected to commence in the latter part of 2013.
Greenko chief executive Anil Chalamalasetty said, “We are pleased to announce the addition of 425 MW to our northern hydro projects, with expansion in Himachal Pradesh and the addition of Arunachal Pradesh, secure in the knowledge that we have the technical capability to deliver them and now the financial fire power, thanks to today’s announcement of a £100 million equity investment by GIC, one of the world’s leading sovereign wealth funds.”
The company currently operates three project clusters in the country – 104.6MW capacity in Himachal Pradesh; 96MW under construction project in Sikkim and 152.25MW capacity in Karnataka.
Addition of the six projects is consistent with the company’s plan to achieve 1,000MW of operational capacity by 2015 and 2,000MW by 2018.
