Australia-based oil and gas explorer Jacka Resources has spud the Hammamet West-3 (HW-3) exploration well in the Bargou block, located off the coast Tunisia.

The HW-3 well is located in the Bargou permit about 15km offshore in water depths of 54m. It is also situated 1.6km east of Hammamet West-2, which recovered oil from the Abiod Formation and 1.9km SSE of Hammamet West-1, which encountered oil in the shallow Birsa Formation.

HW-3 well is being drilled with an object to spud a near horizontal wellbore through the naturally fractured Abiod Formation and conduct a test to confirm oil productivity.

The Hammamet West-2 vertical well identified the presence of an oil column in the target Abiod formation, which has proven productive in fields adjacent to the Bargou Permit.

Under the terms of a farm-in agreement with Cooper Energy, Jacka is contributing 30% of the well cost up to a gross well cost of  $27.2m, after which Jacka will contribute at its participating interest of 15%.

Cooper with 30% interest is the operator, while Jacka Resources owns 15% and Dragon Oil holds 55% in the block.
