Siemens Gamesa notches third Swedish contract with fast growing global renewable energy developer BayWa r.e.

Siemens Gamesa has signed its third deal in Sweden with leading global renewable energy developer Baywa r.e. for a 62 MW wind farm close to the city of Växjö in the south of the country.

The contract, signed in the second quarter of the fiscal year, will see the supply of 10 of the industry-leading Siemens Gamesa 5.X turbines, with a flexible power rating to 6.2 MW. These will be installed at the Furuby wind farm located in forested land to the south of Sweden. The turbines will have a hub height of 135 meters, with a 220-meter tip height.

The wind farm is due for installation in 2022 and will cover a 25-year service agreement with Siemens Gamesa. This is the third project in which the company has worked with a BayWa r.e. business following their first in the country in 2012.

“We are continuing to see a great fit with the Siemens Gamesa 5.X platform with Sweden and expect to see further growth in the country and region in coming months. We welcome the opportunity to extend our relationship with BayWa r.e. too, and will work closely with them to deliver a wind farm offering the most competitive energy solution,” said Clark MacFarlane, CEO for Northern Europe at Siemens Gamesa.

Håkan Wallin, Managing Director of BayWa r.e. Nordic AB, also welcomed this third deal in Sweden. “BayWa r.e. is pleased to continue its successful relationship with Siemens Gamesa and our third project together in Sweden with the Furuby wind farm. Together, across the three projects, we will have delivered 103.3 MW of green renewable power for Sweden with the main part in the south, and I am sure there will be more to come.”

Siemens Gamesa has now signed over 1.2 GW of contracts in Sweden, and globally over 2.6 GW for the Siemens Gamesa 5.X, which included a huge 372 MW deal in Björnberget, the largest it has signed in the country for the 5.X.
