Apple is stepping up its clean energy projects across Europe, with new large-scale solar and wind projects under development in Greece, Italy, Latvia, Poland, and Romania. Along with a solar array that recently began operating in Spain, these projects will bring 650 megawatts of renewable energy to European grids in the coming years, supported by more than $600 million in financing. By 2030, these projects should deliver more than 1 million megawatt-hours of clean electricity on behalf of Apple users.

These renewable energy projects are part of Apple’s wider Apple 2030 goal, which aims to make the company carbon neutral across all operations by the end of the decade. The focus is on renewable energy that powers the electricity used by European customers to charge and run their Apple devices. By 2030, Apple plans to supply all the electricity its customers use worldwide with clean energy, bringing new wind and solar projects online across the globe. The growing portfolio in Europe is an important step toward reaching this goal.

β€œBy 2030, we want our users to know that all the energy it takes to charge their iPhone or power their Mac is matched with clean electricity,” said Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives. β€œOur new projects in Europe will help us achieve our ambitious Apple 2030 goal while contributing to healthy communities, thriving economies, and secure energy sources across the continent.”

Apple’s product use accounted for roughly 29 percent of its total greenhouse gas emissions in 2024. To tackle this, Apple backs renewable energy projects that make the most impact on local grids and cut the carbon released when powering Apple devices. The company focuses on areas where the grid has higher carbon intensity while also protecting communities and local biodiversity.

Across Europe, Apple is helping develop projects that could add around 3,000 gigawatt-hours of renewable energy to the grid each year by 2030. In Greece, a 110 MW solar project owned by HELLENiQ ENERGY is now fully operational under a long-term power procurement agreement with Apple. Italy will see a 129 MW portfolio of solar and wind projects, with the first solar installation in Sicily coming online this month. In Poland, Econergy’s 40 MW solar array will be operational later this year, and Romania’s GalaΘ›i County will host a 99 MW wind farm developed by OX2 and procured through Nala Renewables. In Latvia, Apple signed one of the country’s first corporate power purchase agreements with European Energy, supporting one of the largest solar farms in the nation with 110 MW of clean capacity. Spain has also added a 131 MW solar farm developed by ib vogt in Segovia, which became operational earlier this year.

In addition to initiatives targeting product use, Apple and its suppliers have invested in over 19 gigawatts of renewable energy to power the company’s global corporate operations and manufacturing supply chain, further advancing the Apple 2030 goal worldwide.
