Vestas Wind Systems A/S confirmed it will be responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the 103-MW extension to the Turitea onshore wind farm under a new contract with New Zealand power producer Mercury NZ Ltd.

Fresh off Mercuryโ€™s announcement that it will take the project to 222 MW of consented capacity, the Danish company said it will deliver a further 27 units of V112-3.45 MW wind turbines in 3.8 MW Power Optimised Mode on top of the previous 119-MW order.

In March, Mercury contracted Vestas to build the Turitea wind farm using 33 turbines of the V112-3.35 MW model. The wind project is located in Turitea, an area on New Zealandโ€™s North Island.

Commissioning of the wind farmโ€™s additional section is scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2021. According to Vestasโ€™ announcement in March, the first 119 MW will be commissioned a year earlier.
