Vestas Wind Systems A/S confirmed it will be responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the 103-MW extension to the Turitea onshore wind farm under a new contract with New Zealand power producer Mercury NZ Ltd.

Fresh off Mercury’s announcement that it will take the project to 222 MW of consented capacity, the Danish company said it will deliver a further 27 units of V112-3.45 MW wind turbines in 3.8 MW Power Optimised Mode on top of the previous 119-MW order.

In March, Mercury contracted Vestas to build the Turitea wind farm using 33 turbines of the V112-3.35 MW model. The wind project is located in Turitea, an area on New Zealand’s North Island.

Commissioning of the wind farm’s additional section is scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2021. According to Vestas’ announcement in March, the first 119 MW will be commissioned a year earlier.
