OMV Petrom, which is the largest integrated energy producer based out of Southeastern Europe, together along with Complexul Energetic Oltenia – CE Oltenia has announced that the photovoltaic projects have gone on to enter into the construction phase.
As per theย member of the OMV Petrom Executive Board, which is responsible for Gas and Power, Franck Neel, by way ofย these projects, OMV Petrom goes on to reaffirm its commitment when it comes to a low-carbon energy future, thereby contributing towards Romaniaโs as well as the EUโs climate targets. They are indeed going ahead and transforming a region that has a long-standing tradition when it comes to coal-based energy into a renewable energy hub.ย Located in Iศalniศa, Tismana, as well as Rovinari, the photovoltaic solar parks are going to haveย an overallย installed capacity of almost 550 MW.
The four photovoltaic solar parks are anticipated to become functional in 2026.
The overall investment value for all four photovoltaic solar parks is more than EUR 400 million, with almost 70% getting financed via the Modernisation Fund. The first tranche of this funding, amounting to almost EUR 16 million, was received in December 2025.
OMV Petrom as well as CE Oltenia are equal partners in the projects, and each of them holds a 50% stake.
OMV Petrom goes on to support the RenewAcad program in Tรขrgu Jiu, which is executed by the Equal Opportunities Foundation along with the support of Wind Power Energy, by the RenewAcad training center. As part of the program, in the last two years, more than 200 mining technicians have been retrained as solar photovoltaic system installers, thereby getting their hands on essential skills for integration within a sustainable economy. This initiative is part of a much wider effort that has already trained more thanย 10,000 professionals for energy transition in Romania.
