Swedish local utility firm Tekniska verken has ordered 62MW of wind turbines from Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa.

Under the terms of the contract, Siemens Gamesa will supply of ten turbines from its 5.X onshore wind platform for two wind farms in the Sunne region of Sweden.

The company will deliver seven units of SG 5.8-170 turbines for installation at Fryksdalshöjden. The remaining three turbines of the same model will be delivered at the nearby site of Norra Lansmansberget.

These turbines will use a flexible power rating technology to operate at 6.2MW.

Tekniska verken CEO Henrik Valent said: “Our choice of turbines is based on sustainability in the long term with the least possible impact on the environment.

“We always strive to create solutions that are beneficial to society, the environment and the economy. Today, we are glad to say that the SG 5.8-170 turbine fits our two projects perfectly.”

The wind turbines will have a hub height of 115m. Their installation will take place late next year. Additionally, the contract includes a service agreement for a period of up to 30 years.

Siemens Gamesa has now sold more than 2GW of the Siemens Gamesa 5.X onshore wind platform. Approximately half of this came from Swedish sites.

Siemens Gamesa Onshore Northern Europe CEO Clark MacFarlane said: “Sweden has proven a major driver to the success of the Siemens Gamesa 5.X platform, and we are encouraged to see its rapid roll-out continue in 2021.“We also welcome another contract with a key customer in Tekniska verken, with which we will work closely going forward to help develop the region’s renewable capabilities.”
