Tenaga Nasional collaborates with IBM for $235m hydro project in Pakistan

Malaysia-based electric utility firm Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) Remaco has collaborated with US technology company IBM to develop its $235m hydroelectric plant in Pakistan.

IBM will provide its assistance through its asset management software to automate its manual systems besides catering to increase in resource demands.

Further, IBM’s software will provide the developers with integrated energy data and asset and service management data of the plant, aiding them in making efficient decisions pertaining to plant’s operations.

TNB president Che Khalib stated: “IBM’s solution will play a vital role in running the systems efficiently and helping to pave the way for rapid and full scale development of Pakistan’s hydropower potential.”

IBM Cloud and Smarter Infrastructure general manager Deepak Advani noted: “IBM’s Smarter Infrastructure software not only helps automate business process and better manage resources at the plant, it will also create an interconnected system that enables plant operators to make more informed decisions to efficiently run an energy complex.”

Meanwhile, through this plant, the company is targeting at replacement of 135,000 tons of imported oil, thereby reducing carbon emissions to save the country $100m per year in fuel costs.
