Siemens has won a contract from Spanish wind developer Cobra Energia to supply 11 wind turbines totaling 32.1MW near the city of San Juan de Marcona in Peru.
Under the contract, the company will supply and commission eight 3MW direct drive SWT-3.0-108 wind turbines and three 2.3MW geared SWT-2.3-108 units to the proposed plant as well as provide service and maintenance for seven years. The project is likely to become operational in March 2014.
Each of the turbines will have a rotor diameter of 108m and will be installed at a hub height of 80m. The company will produce all of the blades and three of the geared nacelles at its US plants in Fort Madison, Iowa, and Hutchinson, Kansas, respectively.
Siemens Energy’s Wind Power Americas business CEO Mark Albenze said that the latest contract will enable the company to expand in to the South American wind power market and is the first wind project for both companies in Peru.
