Kyocera Solar has announced that Somers Solar Center located in Connecticut has commenced commercial operations.

The 7.7MW solar project was financed and developed by Kyocera in collaboration with clean energy company CleanPath, while Prime Solutions designed and built the system, before selling it to American energy producer Dominion.

Kyocera Solar president Steve Hill said, “As a $13.6 billion global enterprise that has been profitable throughout its 54-year history, Kyocera is leveraging its financial strength to develop and finance solar projects under highly attractive terms.

“This new business model enables Kyocera to offer its high-quality modules and unmatched track record to customers at very competitive rates,” Hill added.

Covering over an area of 50 acres in north-central Connecticut, the project consists of 23,150 Kyocera 320-watt solar modules and it is expected to produce more than 10,200MWh per annum, enough power supply for nearly 5,000 households.

As per a 20-year purchased-power agreement, the power output from Somers Solar Center will be sold to Connecticut Light & Power.
