RMT begins construction of First Wind’s 69MW Kawailoa Wind project located on Oahu’s North Shore in Hawaii.

The company will provide engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the civil and electrical infrastructure and will install 30 wind turbines of Siemens each of 2.3MW capacity. First Wind President and CFO Michael Alvarez said the company is pleased to again be working with RMT and to continue its commitment to building first-class renewable energy facilities in Hawaii.

“We appreciate the cooperation and support of the Hawaiian regulatory officials, local government, land owners, neighbors, and our construction team in safely building Hawaii’s largest renewable energy facility to date,” Alvarez added.

RMT President David Kutcher said, “We are pleased to be part of the fourth — and largest — project that First Wind is constructing in Hawaii.”

The civil infrastructure work of the project will include constructing roads, crane paths and pads, and turbine foundations. The company will include 23kV collection system, two 23kV/46kV substations, and a 46kV transmission line to interconnect to the Hawaiian Electric Company system for the electrical infrastructure.

RMT is an EPC contactor who specializes in design and construction of wind and solar energy generating facilities.
