General Electric (GE) has secured a supply contract from Romanian special purpose company Energia Verde Ventuno for its Cerna Wind Park.

GE, as per the contract, will supply seven 2.5-103 wind turbines for the 17.5MW facility located in the Tulcea region.

The scope of the $30m contract includes a supplying, erecting and commissioning the wind turbines as well as a 10-year full service agreement.

Energia Verde Ventuno director Mario Costariol noted that the country has huge potential for wind energy development.

“The wind energy sector will be able to develop jobs and help boost the economy, especially in the poorer rural areas of the country,” Costariol said.

The facility is expected to be operational by the end of 2013 and will enough electricity to power 7,000 Romanian households.

GE Europe renewable energy general manager Stephan Ritter remarked that the Cerna project reinforces the company’s goal to support wind power generation in Romania.

“The use of GE’s advanced wind turbine technology enables high efficiency and reliability and significantly increases wind park production capacity and productivity for our customers in the region,” added Ritter.

The project is co-financed by the European Union via its Sectoral Operational Program for the Increase of the Economic

Competitiveness while financing for the construction part is provided by a leading European commercial bank and Quercus Assets Selection.
