China’s Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) said that a team of experts will start to shift Taiwan’s fourth nuclear power plant on 2 April to carry out safety inspection.

The team consisting of 45 experienced engineers and 12 international consultants is expected to give its verdict on the safety of the nearly completed facility in November.

Currently there are three nuclear power plants in operation in Taiwan, reported Focus Taiwan.

MOEA said the team will commence preparations at the fourth nuclear power plant, located on Taiwan’s northeastern coast in New Taipei, for a new trial run in May.

The team is expected to take six months to reach a verdict on whether or not the nuclear plant can operate safely.

President Ma Ying-jeou has instructed Atomic Energy Council to make public the sites of 38 radioactivity monitoring stations and the criteria used in the detection of radioactivity around Taiwan.
