State-owned firm Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has reported that power generation at 32MW Kulekhani 2 hydroelectric plant was halted after a fire broke out at the plant.

The company said that an electrical bushing exploded under a high voltage load causing fire at the plant.

Nepal Army and fire engines from the nearby towns of Chitwan, Birgunj and Hetauda have restricted the fire within two hours after it broke out, reported Hydroworld.com.

The operations at the plant are suspended until the damaged transformers are repaired, following which an evaluation program at the plant has been planned.

Meanwhile, NEA stated that the company would import power from India to cater to energy requirement that Kulekhani 2 facilitates.
