Japanese electronics manufacturer Kyocera has secured a JPY8.5bn ($89m) agreement to develop solar projects at agricultural facilities across the country.

The contract was placed by National Federation of Agricultural Cooperative Associations (Zen-Noh) and Mitsubishi.

Under the agreement, Kyocera will overlook supplying, engineering, constructing, and maintaining a total of 30MW of solar power systems to be deployed at around 80 Zen-Noh Group’s facilities.

In addition, the company will provide 124,000 solar modules rated 242W for the project. The project is aimed at encouraging the use of renewable energy across agricultural sector and local farming towns.

The project will be operated by Zen-Noh – Mitsubishi joint venture JAMC Solar Energy Company. Further, through this joint venture, the companies are planning to launch solar projects with a total power capacity of 200MW by the end of fiscal 2015.

Kyocera has expanded its assets in solar energy which now includes production, supply, installation, construction and operation of large-scale solar power plants.
