Brazilan Energy Minister Edison Lobao has unveiled plans to build four more nuclear plants to increase the nation’s nuclear power-generation capacity. Brazil has two nuclear plants in operation, which includes the 657MW Angra I and 1,350MW Angra II located on the southern coast of Rio de Janeiro State.

Construction at the nation’s third nuclear plant, the 1,300MW Angra III, is still underway. It is set to become operational in 2015.

Lobao said that the construction of the nuclear plants would begin only after a thorough security revision of the two existing plants is done, reports Xinhua.Following the Fukushima disaster in Japan, Brazil conducted security checks at its nuclear plants and indicated that there was no risk of a similar accident happening in the nation.
